Adobe ditch physical copies of software

Adobe have announced that they have stopped producing physical copies of Creative Suite and Acrobat. Instead they will only offer those products online through the Abobe Creative Cloud.

Along with the changes to Adobe Marketing Cloud, this change represents a ‘fundamental shift’ of strategy, according to Neil Morgan, the EMEA senior director of digital marketing, speaking to Cloud Pro.

With this move to a digital-only model, it represents an interesting strategy for software vendors, and may very well turn out to be the norm in the future, with boxed copies of software rejected in favour of SaaS versions of the same product.

It has only taken a year for Creative Cloud to displace Creative Suite – which large product will be next to follow the same path into the cloud?
