Avoiding ‘cloudwashing’

According to technology analyst Gartner ‘cloud computing’ is a misued term which can cause confusion around the benefits that moving to the cloud can bring. Some vendors are accused of ‘cloudwashing’, by trying to tap into the current zeitgeist around the cloud, for example ‘vendors who offer pay-per-use computing but do not offer the ability to scale up or down resources dynamically could be inaccurately calling themselves cloud vendors’. However, Gartner estiamtes that the hype around ‘the cloud’ has reached its peak, and customers are beginning to have accurate and realistic expectations about the benefits of the cloud.
