State of SMB IT

Cloud services are now used by 62% of SMBs, up from 48% in the first half of 2012, rising to 73% by early 2013 according to Spiceworks.

In their bi-annual state of SMB report, they detail other key findings, with IT budgets increasing, but hiring on the downturn compared to the beginning of the year.

Elseware, in the BYOD space, tablet adoption is nearing smartphone levels. With 53% now supporting tablets on their network, with 59% supporting mobile devices, the shift towards tablets and mobile devices away from laptops and desktops is on this increase. However, BYOD as a policy splits opinion, with 14% of SMBs fully embracing BYOD to 24% saying it’s a headache for their IT department.

Virtualisation is also expected to increase in adoption, from 23% of SMBs currently using virtualisation up to 39% in the next 6 months.
